Last week we discussed understanding and moving through the styles using fluency, fluidity and calibration. This week we are looking at what is behind each style. Leadership isn't monolithic. It's a blend of behaviors, strengths, and even vulnerabilities. In this deep dive, we'll explore the facets of various leadership styles through the prism of the DISC Model, Archetypes, and Bird Styles, expanding on each aspect's behaviors, strengths, weaknesses, and inherent needs and motivations.
1. Dominance (Eagle) - Warrior

2. Influence (Parrot) - Lover

Needs: Stability, appreciation for their loyalty, and a peaceful, cooperative environment. They thrive where their contributions to harmony are recognized.
Motivations: A profound need for harmony, both internally and in the external environment. They are driven by the values of unity, support, and shared success.
4. Conscientiousness (Owl) - Magician
Behaviors: Owls/Magicians delve deep into the details, valuing precision, order, and methodical approaches.
Strengths: Their analytical mindset allows for thorough problem-solving. They're often the ones ensuring quality, consistency, and high standards.
Weaknesses: Can sometimes get bogged down in minutiae, potentially leading to decision paralysis. Might be perceived as overly critical or rigid.
Needs: Accurate information, sufficient time to process it, and a structured environment. They value recognition for their meticulousness.
Motivations: A quest for perfection, understanding, and clarity. They’re driven by the need for accuracy, structure, and the pursuit of knowledge.
Recognizing and understanding these multifaceted leadership styles is invaluable. Leaders can lean into their strengths, be wary of potential pitfalls, and create environments catering to their intrinsic needs. Moreover, when team members understand these aspects, it leads to mutual respect, enhanced collaboration, and an overall harmonious work culture.
Remember, leadership isn't about fitting into a mold; it's about understanding oneself, adapting to the situation, and leveraging strengths for maximum impact.
